FAQs

  • Occupational Therapy addresses peoples “jobs of every day living”. The main “jobs” or occupations of a child is to play, learn/“work” through schooling, complete activities of daily living, and participate in the community.

OT is skilled, individualized, evidence based and can address the following needs to support difficulties with but not limited to:
    -fine/gross/visual motor skills

    -self care skills

    -self regulation & social-emotional processing

    -sensory processing

    -executive functioning

At Well & Wild Child, LLC, we believe that addressing these needs in the unique and variable environment of Nature provides exponential benefits and impactful lasting experiences.

  • Aside from limitless research that supports natures benefit to the health and well being of all persons, we at Well & Wild Child, LLC believe that spending quality time in nature is the best method of supporting children in their development of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional skills.

Many clinic spaces attempt to simulate what the outdoor environment naturally provides…what better way to build strength, problem solving and skill than coming across a fallen log, stepping across stones, building a rock tower, exploring texture-rich environments all while fostering a deep connection and appreciation for Nature.

Removing the walls and getting outdoors lets kids be kids, naturally.

  • Wet, snowy and sometimes dreary weather is something that frequents this part of Western New York.

&& guess what? We embrace it!

In fact, we whole-heartedly believe that hosting our Occupational Therapy services in the outdoor setting enhances the skilled services offered. Discussing appropriate outerwear with your OT will take place prior to the start of services.

Sessions take place during all types of weather except for hail, thunderstorms/lightening, and inclement temperatures. Plans for makeup dates due to weather cancellations will be discussed at intake.

  • Well & Wild Child, LLC is currently a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance.

Why? Insurance typically doesn’t cover the whole cost of individual sessions. While nature-based services are valuable, insurance companies may not recognize all parts of the service as medically necessary. In addition, insurance companies often “limit” the amount of visits allowed by the provider.

The effectiveness of our treatment model relies on the therapeutic value of longer sessions (greater than the 30-60 minutes typically allowed by insurance), and our outdoors-in-nature setting (also not recognized by our current health insurance model in the U.S.). In order to provide this high-caliber of care for our families, we do not bill insurance for our services and are not in-network with any health insurance. This allows us freedom to practice in optimal ways to serve your family, rather than being tied to what insurance plans would allow us to do.

Well & Wild Child, LLC works closely with families to determine if, when, and how long outdoor OT is appropriate for your child. Our goal is to provide opportunities for growth and carryover into the home & community settings, which is why sessions are set up in 10 week intervals. As a dynamic team (therapist, family + child), we review the plan and determine what the best fit is for your child and family.
